The Annual East Texas Beef and Forage Conference will be held in Longview, on Monday, September 12 in the Gregg County Extension Service Auditorium located at 405 East Marshall. The program will start at 5:30 PM with registration and the program will start at 6:00 PM with a BBQ supper. Please RSVP to the Gregg or Harrison county Extension office. There is a registration fee of $20.00 per person, which includes a BBQ supper, all of the trimmings and program hand-out materials.
Topics for the evening program will focus on the severe drought we are currently in and discussion on planning for winter pasture, which will include planting, variety selection and fertilization. The program will then shift to cattle feeding strategies, which will include hay utilization, stretching hay supplies, alternative feed stuffs and herd culling.
The program speakers for the evening will be Dr. Vanessa Corriher, Assistant Professor and Extension Forage Spet and Dr. Jason Banta, Assistant Professor and Extension Beef Cattle Spet both located at the Texas AgriLife Extension and Research Center in Overton.

Pesticide License Training and Test
Agricultural producers who are needing a private applicator license or need to up-grade from a certificate to a license will have an opportunity on Friday, October 7th. This training and testing program will be held in the Harrison County Extension office located at 102 West Houston St in Marshall. The program will start at 8:30 a.m. and testing will follow around noon.
This license will enable producers to purchase and use restricted and state limited use pesticides in their operation. Producers with the private applicator license will also be able to supervise others in the application of pesticides. The cost for participating in the Private Applicator Certification Training and Testing program is $50. This fee includes the current “Private Applicator Manual” and the most current “Texas Department of Agriculture Laws and Regulations Manual.” These materials will help you in preparing for the course and final exam. Included with the manual is a set of study questions that will be of assistance. For additional information, contact the Gregg County Extension Office, 903-236-8429.
